Community
Service
Community
service is a
vital
component of
NVUL's
mission. By
performing
community
service
projects,
the Napa
Valley Unity
League will
gain allies
in the
non-LGBTQ
community
and give our
group a
greater
sense of
purpose by
contributing
to the
common good
of the
community.
By visibly
participating
in actions
that support
our local
nonprofits
we
demonstrate
that we care
about the
greater
community.

NVUL
Community
Service
has a page
on Facebook.
It will be
the primary
source of
information
on our
current
service
projects. It
will be a
place that
people can
share their
volunteer
experiences.
Ideas on
current and
future
projects can
be
discussed.

On-going
Service
Opportunities:
-
Teachers
Resource
Center
of the
North
Bay:
formally
operating
under
the
umbrella
of the
Napa
Valley
Education
Foundation,
TRCNB is
now a
501(c)(3)
nonprofit
operating
a store
for
teachers
where
they
"shop"
for free
school
supplies
twice a
year.
NVUL
participates
in their
school
supply
drives
by
asking
members
to
purchase
items on
sale at
various
stores
during
their
Back to
School
sales.
Typically
this
occurs
in the
late
summer
and fall
months.
Members
can
bring
the
items to
the next
NVUL
mixer or
contact
Josie
Jenkins
who will
pick
them up
and
deliver
them to
the
Teachers
Resource
Center
Store.
-
Napa
Rock and
Stroll
benefiting
Cope
Family
Center:
a 6K
walk or
run
along
the
River
Trail
from
Kennedy
Park to
Veterans
Park
downtown
Napa
that
happens
in
September.
We hope
to enter
a number
of 10
person
teams to
walk or
run and
raise
money
for
Cope.
The
first
NVUL
team has
entered,
the
Rainbow
Warriors.
If
someone
doesn't
want to
walk/run,
they can
volunteer
to help
on the
day of
the
event.
-
Relay
For
Life,
American
Cancer
Association
fundraiser.
For two
years we
have
participated
in the
event.
Due to
unforeseen
circumstances,
we won't
have a
booth in
2011 but
intend
to
participate
in
future
years.
-
Napa
Valley
AIDS
Walk, a
yearly
event
focused
on
HIV/AIDS
prevention
and
care.
This
event
typically
happens
in
October.
-
Napa
Valley
Academy
Awards
Gala
benefiting
the CARE
Network
of the
Queen of
the
Valley
Hospital,
a case
management
program
serving
patients
with
HIV/AIDS,
Cancer
and
other
chronic
diseases.
NVUL has
provided
volunteers
for or
raised funds
benefiting
VOICES,
NEWS, Napa
Valley
Education
Foundation
and Cope
Family
Center.
Actions
speak louder
than words.
